Wires White
2 OutDoor Light Wiring Questions Wire coming thru wall to outside has 2 white wires. New fixture has 3 wires?
white,black and bare. Bare i assume is the ground. If there is no ground wire coming from the wall what do i do with ground wire on light fixture? If both wires coming thru wall are white and fixture wires are white and black what goes where?.
Ok there was a light fixture with a metal box wires came thru the wall the metal box was screwed to the wall and the fixture wired and attached to the metal box. Box and fixture got removed leaving the wires sticking out. There are just 2 wires sticking out thru the wall now where the old light fixture used to be these wires sticking out are white not black and white Box and fixture got lost so i just bought a new fixture to replace it . New one has a white,black and bare wire. The question is where do the white and black wire go to and what do i do with the ground (bare) wire. I know you go white to white black to black and bare to bare. But what do you do when there arent wires all the same color
You need a tester to find out which wire is the hot wire. When you find it, mark it black and connect that wire to the black wire on the new light. Then connect the white wire and the bare wire on the light to the other white wire coming out of the wall. Or you can just cut off the bare ground wire on the light. Good luck
